Sunday Service 10-18-09
Do you burn for the Word?
Are you constantly thinking about what you read the day before? Ask yourself why not?
As Christians, shouldn’t we be more excited about the Word?
You know the Word is important- what am I supposed to do?
Luk 24:14-32
(14) And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
(15) And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
(16) But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
(17) And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
(18) And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
(19) And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
(20) And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
(21) But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
(22) Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;
(23) And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.
(24) And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.
(25) Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
(26) Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
(27) And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
(28) And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
(29) But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
(30) And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
(31) And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
(32) And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
The Lord did not talk at them nor to them, but with them.
He listened and talked as an equal.
Did He want the men to discover a new love for the Word on their own?
There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed.
Luk 11:9-10
(9) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
(10) For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
The greatest treasures in the Bible come from a little digging.
God is gentle and He wants us to be passionate about His Son, His Word.
Jesus didn’t just tell them the scriptures, but opened the Scriptures to Him.
God wants us to have a desire for Him. We must let the Word open the Womb in our hearts.
PREPARE YOUR HEARTS FOR THE WORD
PRAY BEFORE YOU READ THE WORD
ASK THE LORD TO OPEN THE WORD BEFORE YOU DAILY.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. KJV
John 14:26
26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you. AMP
Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth (taunt, tease) not; and it shall be given him.
Why not walk with our Lord? Why not discuss the scriptures with Him?
Did not our heart burn within us as He opened to us the scriptures?
How can we use fire as a principle for reading the Word:
Principles to start a fire:
The Word is the fuel.
Heat- caused by friction- repetition, meditate on the word
Air- O2 – Holy Spirit
Trust God to ignite what you need to know.
Walk with Him. Talk with Him. And be still… know that He is God.
The Bible isn’t just ink on the page. It is God’s breath of life.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Read the Bible to discover all that is yours.
The Word is a Light unto your path.
On the way, the couple of men were talking with meeting with the women who saw Jesus alive, but they weren’t quite sure.
The men were talking with Jesus and He opened the scriptures. Jesus continued to walk with them, and he concentrated not on what the news was, not on other things, but on the scripture. He based His whole life on the scripture.
When God opens the Word, it is like a birth. The baby becomes the Master.
“And their hearts burned within them. “
- it is like finding a waterfall, a rare flower, it is for you. We have to continue to be in the Word. The same scripture can be used for every part of one’s life.
From conception to birth, it takes times for growth.
If you don’t have that kindling- The WORD, Heat- Friction, Air
Is the Word FUEL? That is our energy.
If you want to keep God warm deep in your heart, you have to find fuel. If you want to keep warm in the winter storms, you have to prepare- every day meditate on the Word. Need to feed that fire-
Meditate- mull, repeat, look at it from every angle you can, “how does it apply to me, Lord?”, allowing it to burn within your heart; it is not the quantity of reading that you need- it is the part of the Word that God gives to meditate. Search it out- make it a labor of love.
Scriptures talk about muse
Psa 39:1-3
(1)I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
(2) I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
(3) My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,
Allow the Word to burn within you, rather than the passion and emotion.
Create friction by meditating over and over again.
Air= The BREATH OF LIFE- Holy Spirit understands what He wrote. He is the Author. The Holy Spirit is like air, without air we all die. It takes the Holy Spirit Who inspired… With His breath He spoke the Word. The meaning of the Word has life… inspiration. It is energy with the power to change things.
The minute we sound the Word in our minds it starts to take form. It is meaningless if you look at it as a duty, but not as meaning in your life.
MAKE IT A LABOR OF LOVE!
Meditate:
Converse with the Word, the scripture.
Maybe there is another similar scripture.
You have to spend time- it is better to spend time on one scripture than a whole chapter.
Is there another scripture that amplifies the meaning?
Rely on the Holy Spirit.
Never modify the scripture- take it for what it says.
It is better to meditate on one scripture and know it in your heart.

Jane,
ReplyDeleteSaw that you posted this, great. I will go through it when I get time and then write down some thoughts I have and have had. Thank you for your effort regarding this, I, for one appreciate it.
I found the following and wanted to share it here!
ReplyDeleteWould you invite the Lord to your house?
Yesterday as I was doing the same household chores that I have to repeat every day, I had a revelation. What would happen if I just stopped cleaning? I have a twenty year old son and a husband who's lives flow around the fact that I will do and fix everything inside this house. From laundry to clean sheets to meals cooked to even a simple act of a light bulb changed , everything is never given a second thought but what if it suddenly stopped being done? No cooking, no laundry, no sweeping, no waxing, no wiping, no washing, no polishing..not one hand raised to declutter or organize! How long would it be before everything fell to pieces? How long would it be before the house was uninhabitable for humans? Do you think this is how the Lord sees us? Everyday he wipes awaay, cleans us up and the process continues over and over. What if you did not have Jesus in your life ? How long would it be before you were a total mess? Imagine all the accumulated little white lies, the gossip, the four letter words, the tangled web of deceit, the envy, all the bitterness, the loathing, the lusting, the gluttony, the stealing( even a paper clip at work), the hostility, the idolizing of material possessions, not to mention the things you hoped no one ever found out (Jesus knows). Our righteousness is like a filthy rag. There are none good, no not one. We are all sinners drowning in our own devices. There is but one saving grace and that is the grace of our Lord. He will wipe the filth from you and clean you up sparkling and new. The good news is he will not ever stop cleaning you up. He does not want us to filthy our temple but yet we do. So in conclusion, I will keep my house clean as long as I am physically able because I choose to live in something clean the Lord has blessed me with. When we lower ourselves to acts of sin we desecrate the temple he has given us and we take him with us to our places of filth and defilement. I am so sorry I have taken my precious Lord to places of such shame! I will try to keep my house a place of worship where the Lord is always welcome and I don't have to sweep things under the rug and stuff things under a cushion or hidden behind a closed door because he knows. He always knows!
I found the verse that I'm musing over. I don't know why I chose this one specifically?
ReplyDeleteHebrews 4:15-16 New International Version (NIV)
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
I just like it a lot and I'm going to just go over it, repeat it, meditate daily on it. I have decided to start writing these verses down on a note card and take them with me to ponder and think about. I want to know God's will for me and I know that the answers are in the word, but I don't always understand what the word is speaking to me so I really liked the sermon on reading the bible and really getting to know it. I will write more as the Holy Spirit reveals more understanding of the verse that I chose to mull over for now. Have a good day everyone.
You reminded me of a habit that I had let go... that of carrying a written verse in my pocket throughout the day. I find that to be a wonderful way of spiritually remaining aware of His Presence, a way of resting in His sanctuary even when I am in the world. Thanks, I think I will take it up again. Writing verses out requires slowing down long enough to ponder word to word... refreshing...
