Joshua did not ask for a leadership position. He was assigned.
Joshua and Caleb – their confidence was in God. God is with us.
REALIZE THAT THE LORD IS ALWAYS WITH YOU. HE SAID SO.
Josh 1:8-9
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
These instructions to Joshua are just as good for you and me.
God is always with us. He is always able to be depended upon.
Each problem that we face is a battle ground we are to conquer. It can be anything…
God has a definite plan with you in mind to strengthen you so that you can do even more than you are doing now. Life has all the opportunities to do anything, but we need to conquer and face that which we are out to destroy.
Take on challenges. Times without jobs can be a time to take on the challenges. God is always there. He is there when we do things as a Church and when we do things as individuals.
Meditate on the great and wonderful things that God has done in the past. THE GIANTS DON’T MATTER. OUR GOD IS THERE.
My God is an awesome God. He is always with me wherever I go.
In Egypt, God came up with 10 plagues- the plagues were to show that God was greater than any god of Egypt.
In Ps 39, what the psalmist mused in his heart he spoke out of turn.
Psa 39:1-3
(1)
(2) I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
(3) My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,
satan does not want us to know the spiritual being that we are. Why are we hiding in the caves in fear?
God is always with us no matter what is going on in the world. We need to be like Joshua and Caleb to know that we can conquer the enemy because God is with us. If God is with me, who can be against me?

Power Talk with God
Meditate day and night- have a power talk with God every day.
Jos 1:8
(8) This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Josh 1:9
(9) Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
“Commanded”- a subordinate taking orders or instructions from one who is a superior
If you really want to change your life- YOU WILL PAY THE PRICE. You have the Bible.
God was with Daniel and the lions were like kitties.
His Command:
1. Be strong – be emotionally fit, build your emotional muscles
God never meant that your emotions should control you. Your emotions were merely an indicator of how deep something is.
Have resolve. I DO NOT RUN. I FACE MY PROBLEMS HEAD ON. I KNOW GOD IS WITH ME. We need to make decisions- decisions are on your own. Scriptures are where we get out strength.
Deu 1:8
(8) Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
(keep God’s Word, do God’s Word)
Be emotionally fit. Consider the fact that Thomas Edison tried to invent the light bulb 2000 times. Instead of saying “I quit” it gave him the strength to continue on. Learning to play the guitar requires going through the pain of building up callouses.
a. Emotions are energies that we use to motivate us. They can be compared to an atom, though extremely small an atom can emit enough energy to power a whole city or can destroy it.
b. Emotions can either dwarf our life and success, or they can produce the energy to overcome many obstacles.
c. Emotions must be mastered and managed or they can sabotage our efforts
d. Emotions will cause us to shy or be bold
e. Emotions are powers that must be harnessed or they will run wild and destroy that which was meant for us.
f. Emotions can be our ally or will soon be our greatest enemy and betray us.
g. Un-mastered emotions will paralyze us
h. Emotions are to be released through healthy productive expression
i. Identify emotions which denigrate and limit yourself and others
j. Make optimism a habit; focus on the bright side
k. Surround yourself with people who are motivated, hopeful, and positive
l. Confront problems and obstacles and resolve them from a framework of faith and confidence.
m. Emotions are strengths or weaknesses. One must choose how to allow them to function in our lives, and they were made to be our servants
n. Emotions will either excite or bring despair
o. Negative emotions will sabotage; sadness, sorrow, self-pity, self-rejection , self- defeat, pessimism, carelessness, anxiety, worry, etc.
p. The only obstacle is your mind
q. Peace is the state we seek to live in
CONFRONT PROBLEMS AND OBSTACLES AND RESOLVE THEM FROM A FRAMEWORK OF FAITH AND CONFIDENCE
PEACE AT ALL COSTS- Sometimes peace means standing up. Sometimes peace means shutting up. Come to a state of peace. It is only then that you find your power.
Mat 19:26
(26) But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
“Strength doesn’t come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” Mahatma Gandhi
2. Be of good courage
Ferdinand Foch-
“The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.”
We are called to do extraordinary things, because God has placed extraordinary things in me.
Courage is the mental and moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty; stresses firm determination to achieve one’s ends. Courage does not deny fear, but overlooks it because the end is greater than the fear. Courage motivates action.
“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others stiffened.” Billy Graham
discourage- throw away courage
We encourage ourselves by reminding us of the goal that is greater than our fear.
We need to have courage to take a leap of faith.
It takes someone of courage to go after hope, to take on faith, to try out your beliefs.
“Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others ore stiffened.”- Billy Graham
Traits Faith= the substance of things hoped for
Optimism= evidence not seen
Perseverance
“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Don’t be complacent but take action. “Courage not complacency, is our need today, leadership not salesmanship,” John F Kennedy
Confidence in God’s providence that all that is needed for success is provided
Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
2Co 3:4-5
(4) And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
(5) Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
The word courage is formed from a Latin word meaning heart, courage is giving your whole heart to the cause Anything of value, desire, or achievement will require courage
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.” Ambrose Redmoon
Be strong- can’t have courage without strength
Don’t be afraid.
We must not allow fear to become a limiting factor.
Dealing with being afraid- always take action towards your fear
Do not be dismayed (you lose your edge)
to lose hope
to be overwhelmed
to be anxious
doom

Found an obscure verse I hadn't seen before in Heb.11...talking about Barak, Sampson, David, etc...who subdued kingdoms, shut the mouths of lions, escaped the sword, etc., vs. 34: "out of [not apart from] WEAKNESS became strong."
ReplyDeletePaul says that God deliberately chose what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. Then again stating that only when we are weak (in human strength) are we truly strong (in divine strength). The LORD is my strength...I think that's what you're saying: to be strong in the Lord. Most times, the Lord has answered my prayer by weakening me, not by strengthening me, so I'd HAVE to depend on Him and let Him be all, do all - as I watch and learn from Him.
